It follows a the main character Light who finds this note book that allows him to write peoples name in it and those people soon die if there name is wrote int he note book! After he finds out that the books powers are for real he starts by killing all the criminals that are on the news or who did horrible things to make a world that he thinks is perfect and has proper justice.

But we all know that this type of thing is wrong so there is a police task force lead by someone who is called L he is in charge to bring down Light by first finding out that it is Light behind all of this and the story really develops from there since Lights own father is in that special task force!
